THE TECHNOLOGY
  • Sparta Science Force Plates
    • The Sparta Science Force plate technology is the “prescription” for our student-athletes.
    • Using a cloud database of force velocity profiles from male and female athletes who jump on these force plates allows for accurate test results. Profiles include collegiate, NFL, NBA, and WNBA athletes. This technology is also used by Seal Team 6 users. Each athlete is compared against millions of other scans and placed on a bell curve to establish a jump score. Once OU’s strength and conditioning team has this understanding, a personalized plan is created for each student-athlete. This real time data on the student-athletes helps prevent injuries.
    • Four force plates in the facility costs $280,000 with an additional annual cost of $35,000. This necessary and key technology prevents detrimental injuries for the student-athletes in Oklahoma’s care.

  • Athos Wireless Electromyography (EMG)
    • With Athos, our strength and conditioning team can live track muscle activation and movement activation patterns.
    • This technology allows our team the insight to see the underlying causes of potential injury, or in the event of an injury our staff can diagnose and prescribe the solution.
    • To date, OU’s strength and conditioning specialists are only able to evaluate the lower body and for the most effective evaluation, our program can use additional units for upper and lower body evaluations.

  • Firstbeat Heart Rate Monitoring
    • Firstbeat Heart Rate Monitoring live tracks heart rates during workouts and practices. Each session provides a personal report to allow our student-athletes and coaches real time insights.
    • This is especially vital for our heavier student-athletes. The ability to actively monitor the heart rates for the safest training environment possible is not only vital, but lifesaving.
    • This heart rate monitoring is key throughout the year, however, during the COVID-19 pandemic this monitoring system has been an additional resource used for detection of this virus.
    • The current financial responsibility to OU Athletics for a limited number for football and soccer monitoring is $90,000 per year.
  • STATSports Global Positioning System (GPS)
    • STATSports GPS provides OU’s sports science specialists with a wealth of information on an athlete’s external load. With the ability to track distances traveled, speed zones, acceleration, decelerations, dynamic stress load, and max speeds hit during sessions, our team can accurately see and prescribe proper conditioning distances, accelerations and decelerations, and speeds. This allows the athlete optimal performance in the safest environment possible.
    • PLAYER PROFILE: Charleston Rambo
      • 6,000 yards a game
      • Hits 23 mph 3-4 times per game
      • Knowing this information allows the staff and athlete to customize the preparation and practice plans for peak performance on a consistent basis.
  • Recovery
    • An active piece of the sports performance process is intentional and strategic recovery. Oklahoma’s student-athletes utilize the industry leading and dynamic method of NormaTec technology.
    • An identified area of growth is mindful and meditative recovery time.
