PSYCHOLOGICAL Resources
for OU Student-Athletes (P.R.O.S.)

OU Athletics was the first athletics department in the country to hire a full-time psychologist and has been the leader in providing these resources ever since, growing to a staff of 6 specialists. Oklahoma is the destination for aspiring sports psychologist as we house the only sports psychology internship program in the country.

THE WORK
The PROS staff provides various types of academic, career, personality, and symptom assessments. Information gathered through assessments helps to guide the treatment or remediation process making it the most effective and efficient approach possible.

Services offered by PROS include: personal counseling, performance enhancement consulting, career counseling, couples counseling, psychoeducational testing, team building, leadership development, drug and alcohol counseling, medication and specialized care referral.

At the beginning of each year our P.R.O.S. team leads evaluations. Traditionally, 10% of student-athletes return with elevated mental health concerns (eating disorder, anxiety, etc.). In 2020, our team’s results concluded that 33% of student-athletes – triple the amount of an average year – have elevated mental health concerns.
